International mobility

Mobility is a central part of the personal career development, and part of the institution's strategic activity. Experience from international environments will have a significant impact on the researcher's career by an increased scientific network, access to state-of-the-art infrastructure and knowledge. Having mobility on your CV will increase your employability and is a crucial compenent in competitive research applications like ERC grants.

Research

There are several internal instruments at UiT to promote your research career:

UiT Aurora Outstanding is a 2-year career development program for selected young researchers at UiT who have proven to be competitive for high-hanging external funding.

The Arctic MSCA Program is a program to recruite talented foreign researchers for a 2-year postdoctoral position at UiT funded through the EU`s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF). The program also supports UiT postdoc candidates applying for a MSCA-PF Global Fellowship (12-24 months outside Europe followed by a mandatory return phase in Europe) where the candidate wishes to return to UiT for the return phase.

Research- and educational leave (requires login) is a strategic instrument aiming for increased knowledge production in all subject areas, ensuring that all academic staff have good conditions for research and development work.

Thematic strategic research areas were established to promote interdisciplinary projects supporting the thematic priorities in UiT`s strategy, aiming at developing the academic environments at UiT..

Aurora Centers is an instrument aiming at developing the academic environments at UiT. The instrument was established to give our excellent environments better opportunities to succeed in establishing externally funded centers..

Teaching and supervision

Educational competence is a requirement for all academic staff in higher education institutions. All applicants and employees must fulfill the basic pedagogical requirement in order to qualify as associate professor and professor.

When hiring, promoting or applying for the outstanding teacher merit scheme, teaching portifolios are normally used as a form for documentation. The teaching portifolio documents your skills in planning, implemantation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision.

Professional management

Participation in a leadership development program will help develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for personal development.

Leadership development program at UiT includes activities for different groups of leaders, both academically and administratively.

The UiO Research Leadership Programme has capacity for external researchers to apply, giving researchers at UiT the opportunity to participate. The faculties appoints candidates and a list of candidates are sent from UiT.

Being nominated or awarded a prize will help making you visible and can strenghten your CV when applying for external funding.

Awards at UiT: The University Board awards prices annualy in the categories: dissemination, research and development, innovation, gender equality, young researcher and education.
