LibKey Nomad in your web browser
LibKey Nomad is an extension you can add to your browser to easily access scientific articles and books that the University Library subscribes to, through open searches in the browser. The extension will also provide easy access to open access full-text articles. LibKey Nomad is available for the browsers Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, and Safari.
How to do it
With LibKey Nomad in your browser, it will always search for the latest edition of the material which the University Library at UiT has access to through our agreements. When you install LibKey Nomad, you will be prompted to choose an organization. After selecting 'UiT The Arctic University of Norway' and logging in with your FEIDE user, LibKey Nomad is ready to use, and the icon will appear at the bottom left of the screen.
There is video on YouTube that simply explains how to use LibKey Nomad.
There is also a useful FAQ page from the developer explaining different access levels.
How do I know if UiT has access to what I'm looking for?
We have created some screenshots of the different access buttons you might encounter below.
E-books
For e-books, the button will show "View E-book," as shown in the image below.
E-book services with LibKey Nomad integration:
- Amazon
- Wikipedia
- Google Books
- Wiley
- Elsevier
You can find information about other services from the developer Third Iron.
Articles
Direct access to articles is shown with a button labeled "Download PDF":
Examples for databases with LibKey Nomad integration are:
- PubMed
- Embase
- Scopus
- UpToDate
The button says something else - what does it mean?
In some cases, you may find that it doesn't say "Download," but instead "Access Options." LibKey will then take you to what you searched for within the search service Oria. This might be because it's a journal with multiple editions, an older edition that isn't digitized, or the University Library at UiT doesn't have this particular one available. In Oria, you must choose the edition that is correct for you or request the material from another library.

Wikipedia
LibKey Nomad also shows you which articles in reference lists on Wikipedia we at UB UiT have subscriptions to, so you can open them directly from there. Below is an example from the article on Parkinson's Disease:
