Ultima Thule is the University Library’s collection of older printed materials (primarily dating back to before the 1900s) relating to the High North in a broad sense. The collection includes travelogues, expedition reports, older research work, fiction, maps, Arctic history, portrayals of the Sami people, etc. Literature about Antarctica is also included in the collection.
The collection is located in a dedicated, locked, and climate-regulated room at the Culture and Social Sciences Library. A limited number of titles can be borrowed at a time for use in the reading room by enquiring at the information desk between 08:00 and 15:00 on weekdays.
