The data we collect or generate is highly valuable, both to us and to other researchers. Openly sharing research data allows other researchers to benefit from, build on, and mix the data with other available data, increasing the added value of the research data. As long as there are no legal, ethical, security, or financial grounds to the contrary, research data must be made readily available for further use by all relevant users. By ensuring long-term preservation and reusability, the publication of research data and accompanying metadata in a research archive encourages open and transparent science.
