Below we present information and some guidelines related to the personnel policy of Norway and UiT The Arctic University of Norway. 

  • As of 1 January 2018 UiT counts approximately 4 200 employees (3 486,5 FTEs) covering mainly the job categories academic positions, technical positions related to supporting research, administrative positions and  maintenance  positions.
  •  UiT has employees at ten locations in ten municipalities – all located in the northern part of Norway and Svalbard
  • UiT’s personnel policy is based on regulations which apply to public organizations and on laws and agreements which apply to universities and university colleges. 
  • If you have questions related to the position you are applying for, please contact the specified contacts in the announcement.
  • The appointments process in the state sector is twofold, with a preparatory and nominating phase followed by a decision and appointment phase.
  • The Inclusive Workplace Agreement (IA Agreement) is a letter of intent that working life should be more inclusive. The local agreement at UiT The Arctic University of Norway is an agreement between the local parties and the organisation. The agreement expands on the central IA agreement, which was signed between the government and trade unions on 4 March 2014.
  • In public administration one is bound by the qualification principle, jf Statsansatteloven § 3. 
  • UiT has a limited number of rental apartments, which are primarily intended for new employees who move to Tromsø. See Rental housing. 
  • UiT Campus Tromsø offers a variety of courses in Norwegian language and literature at basic, intermediate and advanced level. These courses are available only at Campus Tromsø. Click here for an overview
